Construction & selection
Three-core copper XLPE cable example with copper-tape screens, common PVC bedding, steel-wire armour and PVC sheath. The family designation follows the reference catalogue; exact U0/U(Um), insulation dimensions and project compliance must be confirmed in the current selected datasheet.

Construction
Illustrated variant: Three-core CU/XLPE/CTS/PVC/SWA/PVC, selected PVC outer-sheath branch
- Compacted stranded copper conductors
Copper strands are compacted together to form each current-carrying conductor.
- Semiconducting conductor screens
A semiconducting layer around each conductor forms its inner electrical screen.
- XLPE insulation
Cross-linked polyethylene forms the main electrical insulation around each conductor.
- Semiconducting insulation screens
A semiconducting layer around each XLPE-insulated core forms its outer insulation screen.
- Copper tape screens
Copper tape forms the metallic screen around each individual insulated core.
- Core assembly and fillers
The insulated cores are assembled together, with fillers occupying the spaces between them.
- PVC bedding
PVC forms a bedding layer between the insulated core assembly and the armour.
- Steel wire armour
Steel wires form the mechanical armour around the cable.
- PVC outer sheath
PVC forms the external protective covering around the cable assembly.
The illustrated variant uses a PVC outer sheath. The source also lists a PE alternative; that alternative is not shown.
