Construction & selection

Two-core copper cables with individual PVC insulation and a common PVC sheath. The illustration shows the unarmoured option; steel-wire-armoured variants are a separate construction choice.

Representative illustration: Two-Core PVC Power Cables
Representative illustration of one configuration. Actual construction, colour and dimensions depend on the selected specification.

Construction

Illustrated variant: CU/PVC/PVC unarmoured

Representative construction of CU/PVC/PVC unarmoured, with numbered components 1 to 4, explained below.
Representative construction of the selected variant; not to scale. Strand counts, colours and dimensions are illustrative.
  1. Copper conductors

The copper conductors form the current-carrying elements of the insulated cores.

  2. PVC insulation

PVC provides the electrical insulation around each conductor.

  3. Two-core assembly

The two insulated copper cores are assembled together inside the common sheath.

  4. PVC outer sheath

PVC forms the external protective covering around the cable assembly.

The image represents the unarmoured construction in supplier LV reference catalogue, page 14. The separate armoured option on page 16 is not illustrated.
